What is the 8to5 Energy Saver?

The 8to5 Energy Saver is a one piece assembly which includes high frequency electronic components that allow you to use T5 next generation energy-saving fluorescent lamps in existing light fittings. It incorporates a high frequency electronic ballast and bridge adaptor in one assembly.

Why should I switch to the new T5 lamps?

T5's are a new generation of fluorescent tubes which use up to 65% less electricity, have an extended life expectancy of 20,000 hours and produce a better quality light with instant start and no flickering. Therefore using this new technology will reduce electricity bills, reduce maintenance costs and improve working conditions.

Why can’t I install T5 tubes into existing T8 or T12 fittings?

Quite simply, the T5 fluorescent tube has a smaller diameter and is shorter in length than T12 or T8 tubes.

The T5 tube specifically requires a high frequency electronic ballast with pre-heat function to start and to operate it.

Why should I use 8to5 Energy Savers and not just replace the old light fitting?

Replacing the entire T8 or T12 fluorescent light fitting will be expensive, time consuming and disruptive.

The 8to5 Energy Saver incorporates an electronic ballast and a ‘bridge’, designed to overcome the problems of different lengths and diameters, so allowing you to enjoy all the benefits of T5 lamps without the costly replacement of all existing light fittings.

Installation

The 8to5 is the only T5 adaptor that has been designed in accordance with LIF / CELMA installation and safety concerns. The 8to5 unit is simple and quick to install but as in all electrical equipment we recommend that advice or assistance from a qualified electrician is obtained. When the 8to5 is installed it does not use ANY of the existing wiring, fittings or control gear and is in fact an independent T5 lighting unit with full BS Standards and a 2 year warranty.

Earth/Safety Issues

The 8to5 is constructed from fire-resistance ABS. This ABS / Plastic frame and reflector make the 8to5 extremely safe, double insulated product, which is fully BS / EN and CE tested. The 8to5 also has internal thermal and in-line safety fuses. ( Please see full specification)

There are a number of copy T5 adaptors products available that have metal bodies which are not earthed and do not have double insulation! They also do not comply to LIF / CELMA and we believe these products are extremely dangerous.

An independent BS Test Centre have tested several of these types of products and confirm that the results do not meet with UK or EU Safety Standards.

So please beware of copy products. Make sure they are fully insulated and ensure that you see full test results, BS test certificate and product liability insurance documents. MG Electrical has £10 million product and public liability cover.
